Manchester United finally announced on Tuesday the sacking of their embattled coach, David Moyes, who took over from the legend, Sir Alex Ferguson. Moyes had been in MU for less than a year.

Following his sacking, David Moyes released a statement saying he was "grateful" to former manager Alex Ferguson for the opportunity he was given to serve at MU and acknowledged he had failed to live up to the expectations of the club and its fans.

Fans of the club have been calling for Moyes’ for weeks now, after a string of poor performances. What broke the camel’s back, apparently, was the Red Devils' 2-0 loss against Everton on Sunday.

In a related move, the League Managers' Association, a union for all managers involved in Premier League, Football League and national team football in the UK, voiced its displeasure with the way Moyes' resignation was handled, with reports saying that he first heard of his sacking on the media.

Following the loss to Everton, Moyes' continued stay at MU was untenable. With the club not able to qualify for UEFA Champions League football for the first time in 19 years and even the Europa League seemingly out of reach, MU was in a crisis. Ironically, Moyes joined MU from Everton, where he was very successful.

Meanwhile, following the departure of Moyes, the club has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club’s most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made.
