The South Sudan Football Association says it is waiting for official communication from the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) on the status of the CECAFA regional football tournament.
The tournament was supposed to take place from the 24th of November to the 9th of December, but did not take place after hosts Ethiopia withdrew for unclear reasons.
Speaking to the media in Juba, the general secretary of the association William Akot says they are waiting for CECAFA to clarify whether the tournament has been postponed or cancelled.
"…Up to now, we don’t have information at all whether it has been postponed or cancelled…now the period has already elapsed. This tournament would have started right from 24th of November and concluded by the end of this week, but there’s no any information we are still waiting to be informed” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Athletics Federation is holding competitions across the country to select athletes for a national athletics team.
Kamal John Akol, secretary of the federation says at least 25 participants took part in different categories of competitions at the Buluk playground in Juba on Wednesday evening.
“Last week we finalized our programmes in Western Equatoria and we have chosen the players from Western Equatoria, Western Bahr El Ghazal, Warrap and northern Bahar el Ghazal. This competition aims to select one national team that is going to participate in African Athletics competitions to be held in February in Ethiopia,” he said.
The athletes selected will make up the squad that will represent the country in the 2015 East and Central Africa Athletics competition, and the African Youth Championships to be hosted by Ethiopia.
