[Juba, South Sudan, TCT, by Francis Mading ] A Sudanese high-level government delegation led by Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Doglo, the Vice-President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council arrived in the capital Juba on Monday November 25, to follow up on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan.
Mohamed Hassan Al Taishi, a member of the Sudanese sovereignty council, told reporters in Juba that they have come to follow up on the progress of the implementation of the activated peace agreement in South Sudan, because Sudan is one of the key guarantors of the agreement.
“we want to ensure that all the provisions of the agreement are implemented before the formation of the government in February next year.” Said Mr. Al Taishi.
"Sudan is keen to ensure the stability of South Sudan politically. It is important that the parties agree within 100 days," he said.
Last week, the UN Security Council said that the parties to the South Sudan Peace Agreement had not made significant progress in implementing the outstanding issues in the agreement.
It is known that the two main parties of the agreement (the government wing led by Kiir) and the (opposition wing led by Machar) agreed to extend the pre-transitional period for an additional 100 days until the implementation of the security arrangements, which includes the formation of a unified national army in addition to the issue of the number of states and their borders. These were the obstacle to the formation of the unity government, which was postponed twice in May and November 12 this year. There are high hopes that the formation of the unity govermnet may be realised after 100 days.
